Middle School 53 is proud to be a community school, which means we’re more than just a place for learning—we’re a hub of support, opportunity, and connection for our students, families, and the surrounding community. As our official Community-Based Organization (CBO), The Child Center of NY (CCNY) plays a vital role in helping us bring that mission to life every day.
Founded in 1953, The Child Center of NY has grown into one of New York City’s leading nonprofit organizations, with more than 100 programs across 70+ locations serving nearly 60,000 children and families each year. At MS53, CCNY is an essential partner, working side by side with our school staff to provide wraparound services that address the academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being of every student.
Through this partnership, our students and families have access to:
What makes CCNY’s support so effective is their holistic, relationship-based approach. They don’t just look at a child’s academic performance—they consider the full picture, including home life, mental health, and access to resources. Their advocacy and outreach further helps us to meet the needs of the community we serve.
Together, MS53 and CCNY are creating a school environment where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential—not only in school, but in life. It’s a partnership rooted in trust, collaboration, and a shared belief in the power of education and community.
